Episode summary
Paul had grown accustomed to Cate taking care of their son and two daughters. His job as a sports writer kept him on the road a lot during the kids' formative years. But when Cate decides to return to work as a hospital nurse, Paul takes a job as a columnist and undertakes the responsibility of helping out with the kids.

Fun and viewer review
So Ritter for me makes this show. And It seem's sad that a show is made by one single actor cause (RIP) when Ritter leaves the show doesn't have much going for it.
Although this episode is a very good example of how he makes it. It see's him struggling to cope with teenage girls and if he is anything like my father, which he is from this show, he doesn't find it easy at all!
It see's the foundations of the personalities of all the kids. Rory the quiet boy which seems to be a bit of a sly one, Bridget the maneater and perfect at everything and kerry the girl who is the smart one but doesn't have that confidence!
An average episode - a great foundation for a good show!

Paul is left home alone with the kids while Cate is at a seminar on the day of the big Michigan/Ohio State football game. But much to Paul's dismay, the game soon takes a backseat when Bridget is accused of shoplifting and Kerry gets upset over her latest cause.

Fun and viewer review
Very typical family sit-com. When it originally aired, it reminded me of a cleaned-up Roseanne. Watching it in reruns (on UPN), it still does!

Episode summary
After seeing how much money Bridget spends on keeping up with the latest fashions, Paul tells her to go out and get a job to learn how to be fiscally responsible. But when she lands a job at a trendy mall clothing store that offers its workers a 40% discount, Paul and Cate begin to worry that she may not be learning the true value of a dollar.

Fun and viewer review
Its a really great episode that i would recommend to anyone who has never seen it.
PROS:
1) Bridget has to get a job. This was quite enjoyable since Bridget isn't all that responsible.
2) It was funny too! I loved how Paul was like "Hey no fighting!....so close to the tv."
3) I like the whole credit card/too many clothes twist thing in it.
4) The thing with Rory having a snake in his room i think, priceless!
CONS:
1) I'm not incredible happy how they ended it.
Overall, i can't wait to see this on tv again! Watch out for it if you haven't seen it yet.

Episode summary
Bridget takes drastic measures when an overprotective Paul keeps coming up with excuses to delay her from taking her driver's test. Meanwhile, after convincing a less-than-confident Kerry that she has the talent to enter an art competition, Paul is shocked and Kerry is devastated when her submission is rejected, on "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

Fun and viewer review
This is just one of those episodes that I can relate to.
You know it is a big worry for some parrents to let their kids start driving. Its just something that worries a parrent to let their kids get control over a two ton vehicle. I would be tooo if I was a parrent.
the thing that makes it so good to watch is the fact that older viewers can appreciate the drama that the father goes through while younger viewers can relate to haveing your parrents say no to getting your licence. simply put THIS episode is one of the best in the show.

Episode summary
A sports-struck Paul lets Bridget do whatever she wants when she breaks up with Kyle and begins dating high school basketball wonder Travis "The Rainman" Smith – whose father just happens to be Michigan baseball legend Steve "Canned Heat" Smith (Terry Bradshaw). Meanwhile Kerry resents the fact that Paul still thinks of her as a little girl and not as a budding teenager ready to take on the dating world.

Fun and viewer review
It really was a great episode, you know, it could have been slightly improved, but overall, a great idea.
PROS:
1) Bridget breaks up with Kyle, only to have a new boyfriend who's a basketball star! Paul is a big fan of him and his father, and lets Bridget do almost anything she wants while she's dating him.
2) It was really quite funny! One of my favorite parts was when they were shopping and Rory asks "Can I sit in the cart?" I know it's not the funniest, but I love Rory! He's a great character!
CONS:
1) I wasn't a major fan of what Kerry did to get some attention from her parents, trying to make them think she was going out with some guy.

Episode summary
Bridget is ecstatic when the cheerleading squad has an opening for a new member. But after telling Kerry that she is not cut out to be a cheerleader, Bridget is completely dumbfounded when her sister tries out and is chosen for the team. Meanwhile, Paul tries in vain to wean Rory off video games and introduce him to the world of books.

Fun and viewer review
It was great! I personaly loved it! It was very enjoyable! It was ha - ha - ha - larious! I loved the part when the cheerleading squad called the last name "Hennesey" when both Bridget and Kerry were sitting there! And then Kerry got up and made cheerleading look easy! I wish I was as good at cheerleading as Kerry, actualy I wish i could at least cheer lead! It looks like so much fun! I also wish that if I didn't make a team or squad and one of my siblings did I could stay home eating ice cream and drinking hot chocolate all day!

Episode summary
Paul seems to be the only one looking forward to a family Halloween, as Bridget, Kerry and Rory make plans to spend the spooky evening away from home and with their friends. But Paul's wish to relive the past by having the family get together for one last Halloween campout in the old treehouse may turn out to be the biggest nightmare of the evening.

Fun and viewer review
this gurter deminstrates how the kids are just ttrying to gain independence from the house and their parrents in general. Very good episode but could have been more serious to make it even better. After all kyle did not really need to be in the episode. kyle's part in the end when he climbs up the treehouse was not even nessasary. sure its for comic relief but really this would have been a much better charecter development episode for all of the cast if some of the jokes were cut out. But still it was a very nice first holiday episode.

Episode summary
In an effort to win back the love and respect that his daughters used to show him when they were young, Paul turns to a parenting book for some quick advice. But when Bridget and Kerry discover Paul's teaching tool, they try to use it to their advantage to get their father to let them go to a rock festival.

Fun and viewer review
first of all it gave out an excelent concept of raising children on a psycological book. A tool many new parrents believe will actually work on their kids. However what is interesteing is that in this episode Pual uses the book too much and it backfires. But in the end it turned out exactly as the book said it would. This episode teachs two very important lessons that one people can be manipulated by psycological books, but on the contrary humans in general should retrain from doing this because this alienates people from one another. In the end very good show

Episode summary
Paul's plan backfires when--after telling Bridget to tell Kyle the truth about her date with another boy -- Kyle breaks up with her. Meanwhile, Kerry's first date turns out to be a dream, but she is devastated when the boy doesn't call her back.

Fun and viewer review
A very typical example of teenage life vs understanding of parrents. When the parrent trys to force values in his child by makeing them do the right thing high school society takes that and basicially butchers it. Its a fine concept thats almost in every episode of this show they didnt need to do an episode trying to display this solely. jokes were as usual funny but nothing that made me spasm with laughter. good episode but could be much much better, Still if your a dieheart fan I think you should watch this one for the jist of it.

But the family's vices soon get the better of them, and secret collaborations and clandestine alliances threaten to foil the contest.

Fun and viewer review
It was a great episode and a great example of 8 simple rules! it was one of my favorites! it was ha - ha - ha - larious! one of my favorite parts was when Kerry locked her brother Rory (most of the time refered to as the boy) outside all night in only his under pants! And the thing was that Rory couldn't tell on her if he wanted to go to the american space museum! another one of my favorite parts was when Bridget was on the phone with Kyle and she heard her mom coming so she threw the phone in the dryer so her Cate wouldn't see! But overall it was great!

Episode summary
After meeting his new editor Nick, Paul becomes quick friends with the man when he discovers they both have a common bond—being married fathers of teenage girls. But Paul soon learns that he may have something else in common with Nick—having the reputation of being an overprotective "psycho dad." Meanwhile, Paul wants to make Thanksgiving a family affair, and forbids Bridget and Kerry from inviting their boyfriends to the festive feast.

Fun and viewer review
paul is always funny around his daugthers boyfriends and this episode was no different. both jason and kyle are ordered around and its funny to see how they both react!!
this was a holiday episode and paul made his point that he didn't want anyone inviting anyone but family over which ofcourse doesn't go that way.
i also liked how we saw the psycho dad on the daughters boyfriend from another angel. rory was struggling with a girls dad (pauls new boss) when he likes his daughter. it was really funny to see how rory reacted around him and showed that jason and kyle weren't the only two that didn't know how to act.
a very very funny episode with great character development!

Episode summary
Paul discovers that he has his work cut out for him for the holidays when he tries to find perfect gifts for the family to make up for last year's Christmas fiasco. Kerry also finds a stray dog during the holidays. Meanwhile, Cate is overjoyed when she is asked to sing a solo at the church's midnight service, but fears that seeing her family there will make her nervous.

Fun and viewer review
This was a great christmas special, it had many good things about it.
PROS:
1) In the end, there was a message about helping save animals from the animal shelter. I liked that.
2) I also liked the whole Kerry/shelter idea, even if she had to miss christmas eve with her family.
3) The whole Kyle/Bridget present thing was just spectacular!
4) I liked how Kerry really wanted this one dog she found.
5) It was very funny!
CONS:
1) Well, i wasn't a huge fan of the whole Cate/singing thing.
2) It was pretty strange how even though Paul agrees to let Kerry keep the dog, it isn't mentioned again or seen again in the series.
Overall, i look forward to seeing it again at Christmas.

Episode summary
When a proud Paul lets 13-year-old Rory go out on his first date, Bridget and Kerry accuse him of unfairly changing the rules because they were never allowed to date at that age. Meanwhile Kerry is shocked when Bridget receives a higher score then she did on a state aptitude test.

Fun and viewer review
I love this episode! It is exactly why i watch the series!
PROS:
1) I loved the whole thing with everyone thinking Bridget was the smart one and it all going to Bridgets head. I enjoyed that!
2) The whole thing where Rory would say he liked someone and they would go like "Awwww!" That was funny.
3) I also thought it was very funny, classic jokes.
4) I just loved the whole "You got mail" and Kerry and Bridget would go to the computer. I thought that was funny.
CONS:
1) It was kinda strange how they ended it in my opinon...
Uhh, yep! Overall, spectacular!

Episode summary
Paul and Cate are shocked when they are called into the principal's office and informed that Bridget wants to skip her college prep classes in order to become an esthetician. Meanwhile, Paul is so impressed with Kerry's sketches of "The Incredible Boring Woman" that he gets the principal to print them in the school newspaper -- not realizing that the principal is the boring woman in question.

Fun and viewer review
This episode was really fun to watch, but it didn't stick out as much as the others. Still, very clever.
PROS:
1) It had a great plot to it! Bridget wants to drop out of her college prep courses because she wants to work with make up and skin. But her parents, especially Paul, objects to the idea.
2) Its main theme is basically 'acceptance.' I think that its hard for a show to come up with a good episode on being accepted for who someone is, but 8 simple rules nailed it!
3) Kerry's 'incredibly boring woman' comics were quite enjoyable, not the most enjoyable, but I loved how in the end Kerry had to paint posters for school that went against her animal rights, or something. XD
CONS:
1) I said that Kerry's 'incredibly boring woman' comics were funny, but it wasn't the greatest idea ever.
Pretty good episode!

Episode summary
After Kerry and her boyfriend break up, Paul tries to cheer up his blue daughter by getting Bridget to take her little sister with her to a party. But while talking to Kyle at the party, Kerry is shocked when a spark is ignited and the two share a romantic kiss. Meanwhile, Paul and Cate try to discover what is hidden in Rory's secret box.

Fun and viewer review
so everything gets turned on its head in this episode.
kerry and kyle. squeeeee. first off. kyle is a total hottie. lets face it. and kerry with him at first seemed a total disaster. she's so smart. i felt like screaming, what were you thinking writers!! but i was totally charmed by the idea that they got on really well. and how they did it was very very charming.
i also love how paul always seems to put his foot in it! like telling bridget that kyle kissed kerry!! why?? but he did it. and it seemed to work out badly but okay. as normal everything seems to work out in the end (maybe not so much in this episode but wait and see lol)

Episode summary
After discovering that boyfriend Kyle kissed Kerry at a party (the previous episode, "Kerry's Big Adventure," airing Jan 21), Bridget gives her sister the silent treatment – which is anything but quiet for Paul. But real life merges with fantasy when Paul has a dream that lands him in familiar territory, showing Kyle as a swinging bachelor living with Paul's two beautiful daughters in an apartment straight out of the ‘70s. The set of the classic comedy "Three's Company" was recreated down to the last detail for this episode.

Fun and viewer review
but i can honestly say i watched this episode with that look on your face that says. what on earth, like seriously. i get the whole omg visiting the past and weird dreams but weirdd.
i have no idea even how to review this episode. i like the block it out of my memory cause it just stands out in the whole series of being completely random, cringeworthy yet at the same time quite funny. it stands out though for me in a bad way. it didn't fit in with the whole 8 simple rules theme and yes it was meant to be different but i didn't enjoy it.

Episode summary
Bridget defies the rules of the house after Paul forbids her from going out on a date with Ben (Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter) -- her college-age drum instructor. Meanwhile, Kerry is mad at Cate when her ex-boyfriend confesses that he thinks her mother is pretty.

Fun and viewer review
liked an older boy and wasn't allowed to see him?
liked a boy and thought, o dear god. do you like my mom more than me?
having a friends mom with a body to die for when growing up i can say i have been there through her. i used to like this well fit older guy but was banned from seeing him.
so this episode hit home. we have all had this situation or knew it. bridget liked the older guy. kerry thought it was odd that her ex could see her mom as pretty.
personaly its a teenage thing. we like older guys/girls and we don't dig the omg i think your mom is hot thing. perfectly sums up the whole series.
what planet are parents from? what planets are ex's from? and seriously why do dads talk, ever??

Episode summary
Bridget takes the car and follows her older boyfriend, drum instructor Ben (Nick Carter, Backstreet Boys), to his college dorm. Conclusion of a two-part episode.

Fun and viewer review
so as i said before. nick carter for me was a perfect choice of actor here. he fitted the dreamy college guy that you would imagine bridget to go for perfectly for me. i totally adored their scenes together!! although crap ending with it all.
some amazing quotes especially some one liners about the book from rory. a personal favourite about how they havent killed the bird! hahaha!
i read this book a while ago (a long while ago for school when i used to attend lol) and a girl in my class at the end actually asked when the bird died, needless to say she was put in detention for jerking of her reading duties, lawl.

Episode summary
When Paul has to pick up Bridget and Kerry from a party that's been broken up by the police -- and "supervised" by co-worker Tommy (Larry Miller) -- Paul chastises his friend and unwittingly volunteers to host the next one. But when Paul falls asleep during the party and it gets out of control too, the kids think of him as a "cool parent," while the neighborhood parents think he's just as unreliable as Tommy.

Fun and viewer review
In this episode, Paul gives up his house for parties for Bridget and Kerry's friends. He falls asleep at his Ever so safe party and wakes up to find that things went a bit out of control. All the parents are mad at Paul, but all the kids suddenly think he's a "Cool parent." The thing i enjoyed most about this episode though was the thing with the "slipper dad." Basically, Paul was talking to the kids who were teasing Rory at school and the kids noticed he was wearing slippers and called him "Slipper dad". So thats what the whole Slipper dad thing was about, i loved the ending part when Rory dumped a box of slippers on him! Anyways, it was pretty good, but its not all time favorite episode.

Episode summary
When Paul is asked by race car driver Carter Tibbits (Jason Priestley, "Beverly Hills 90210") to write a book about him, Paul brings the family to Tibbits' mansion to meet the driving legend and his sarcastically dry-witted butler, Cody (Robert Guillaume, "Benson," "Sports Night") -- who used to be Carter's crew chief. But a misunderstanding leads Rory to steal a photo from Carter's room, and it's Paul who's under suspicion when a security camera catches him trying to return the item.

Fun and viewer review
This episode is very enjoyable to watch! I highly recommend it to those who haven't seen it yet!
PROS:
1) The plot fit together very smoothly. Paul gets to write a book for a race car driver legend, but the book gets pulled off of production when Rory misunderstands a joke that Paul made.
2) It was a really funny episode, the thing with 'wife #3' was also very funny.
3) Bridget doing Physcology. It was very funny to see her doing this, especially when she would analyze everything that Kerry would be doing during the episode.
4) The thing with the video tape, and only catching Paul playing with the guys Trophey and not catching Rory stealing the picture was quite ironic.
CONS:
1) The man who changed tires for Carter, well, I didn't really like him that much. I don't really know why, it just seemed like a useless character for the episode.
Overall, fantastic episode!
